Why is Chivas Regal Takumi Reserve not listed as Scotch whisky?

Due to the small amount of hop flavor added to the Japan cask cask whisky used, Chivas Regal Takumi Reserve is Japan not classified as a Scotch whisky in accordance with the Scotch Whisky Association’s guidelines. On the other hand, as in the UK, it is not classified as “Scotch whisky”. )

Why do we add hop flavor to our products? / Why is Chivas Regal Takumi Reserve not listed as Scotch Whisky?

Chivas Regal Takumi Reserve 12 Years is an innovative new product of Chivas Regal, which finishes part of the original sake in “sake casks”, that is, oak barrels aged from Japan sake. There are very strict rules for the production of Scotch whisky, according to which “liquor casks” are not allowed as maturation vessels. As a result, our products cannot be called “blended Scotch whisky” and are instead clearly labeled as “spirit drinks”. It also made it mandatory to add trace amounts of fragrances to products to meet other regulatory requirements. For this reason, “Chivas Regal Takumi Reserve 12 Years” has a very small amount of natural hop flavoring, but it is very difficult to feel the effect of the flavor even with the taste buds of an experienced person.

Chivas Regal Takumi Reserve 12 Years Old is classified as a ‘spirit drink’ in the UK, and we believe that Chivas Regal fans will be able to feel our iconic taste in all blends at Takumi Reserve. These rules may cause a bit of confusion among consumers, but we hope you will enjoy the fusion of Japan’s unique elements and traditions.

In Japan, Takumi Reserve is defined as “whiskey” based on Japan’s Liquor Tax Law.
