With an average of 47 road accident fatalities per day, South Africa is one of the most dangerous countries in which to drive. Time is the driving factor in case of emergencies and delays in receiving medical attention often turns out to be fatal. CrashDetech is a smartphone application, which automatically detects a serious car crash, pinpoints the location, immediately dispatches the nearest ambulance and supplies paramedics with lifesaving information. We offer various value added benefits as part of our subscription packages, looking after the safety, security and legal needs of our members whilst on the road.

Describing global road death and injury as a ""major public health problem with a broad range of social and economic consequences which, if unaddressed, may affect the sustainable development of countries and hinder progress towards the Millennium Development Goals"" the UN General Assembly proclaimed the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020 in a landmark Resolution co-sponsored by 100 countries. Officially launched on 11 May 2011, the Decade of Action has the official goal of 'stabilising and then reducing' global road traffic fatalities by 2020. CrashDetech is aligned to this goal, reducing emergency response times and providing paramedics access to vital medical information that could save many lives.

It was one of the best experiences of my life and the support we’ve had has been amazing. My business and I have benefited in more ways than I could ever have imagined. The exposure has resulted in many new opportunities and CrashDetech has gone from strength to strength. The Chivas Venture provides a platform where social entrepreneurs are supported, encouraged and where their stories can be told. It creates a “movement” inspiring others to become part of the change. Together, we can indeed make the world a better place.

CrashDetech concluded a licensing agreement with the largest insurer in South Africa, which will see the technology being made available to half a million people over the next six months. We’ve also launched our own insurance cover, which provides guaranteed hospital admission and up to R100 000 cover for any accident, providing an affordable alternative to people that can’t afford medical aid. We’re also expanding our service to Latin America in April, with other territories following later this year. We’re continuously improving our technology and working on new features, which will further the impact we’re desirous to achieve.
