The Royal Handshake Whisky Cocktail Recipe

MASTERS THE ROYAL HANDSHAKE COCKTAIL RECIPE

Short and strong - Advanced - Rocks or Old Fashioned glass

Just like a good handshake, some things are best served strong. The Royal Handshake is a short and strong whisky cocktail created at the 2018 Chivas Masters by Filip Jancarek. A sweet cherry wine reduction and rich redcurrant bitters are all that’s needed alongside our flagship whisky, Chivas 12. Don’t forget the lemon zest garnish, which is perfect for cutting through the rich nature of the drink!

    Ingredients

  • [60] Chivas 12
  • [5] cherry wine reduction
  • {4} dashes redcurrant bitters
  • Lemon zest, to garnish

    How to make it

  1. 1 To make cherry wine reduction, simmer cherry wine on medium heat until it reduces by half.
  2. 2 Add equal parts of sugar to reduced wine and stir until dissolved.
  3. 3 Add all ingredients into a mixing vessel.
  4. 4 Fill to the top with ice.
  5. 5 Stir for approximately 20 seconds. Strain into a rocks or old fashioned glass filled with ice.
  6. 6 Garnish with lemon zest.
  7. 7 Serve.

WHISKY COCKTAIL RECIPE TIP

When stirring whisky cocktails with ice, only stir until the outside of the mixing glass feels cold – any further stirring will over dilute the drink.

When Filip Jancarek made this cocktail at the 2018 Chivas Masters, he served it on top of a hand shaped ice sculpture made using just water, a rubber glove, and an empty glass.
