Sweetening the health of the world.

Xilinat is creating a biotechnological, natural and patented process to transform agricultural waste into a sugar substitute, to improve the economy, avoid the burning of waste and provide a healthy alternative that combats obesity and diabetes.

Every year, millions of tonnes of agricultural wastes are incinerated by small scale farmers, releasing massive amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere. In Mexico, this practice creates 40% of the CO2 that we generate as a country*. At the same time, the leading cause of death is diabetes, with obesity drastically on the rise.

Addressing these social and environmental problems, we purchase and collect agricultural waste from small scale farmers and transform it into a natural sweetener, which looks and tastes identical to sugar, is low in calories, ideal for diabetics, and protects teeth against cavities. By doing so, we also generate revenue for low-income families and prevent burning, along with human exposure to the associated harmful pollutants.

Funding would allow us to…

…scale-up our process from lab to pilot plant, with the aim of producing 10 tonnes of product in the next 3 years. We would be able to pay 4,700 USD to farmers in Mexico, recycle 80 tonnes of agricultural waste, avoid 70 tonnes of CO2 and improve the health of 2,600 people. To date, we have acquired 300 tonnes of waste and avoided 1.2 tonnes of CO2 emissions.

What’s your blend for success?

Having seen the consequences of sugar addiction first-hand, we are committed to creating a sustainable, healthy and tempting alternative. It is this commitment that we have blended with our knowledge of agriculture and biotechnology to create a bulletproof business model to benefit all.
