Xilinat is creating a biotechnological, natural and patented process to transform agricultural waste into a sugar substitute, to improve the economy, avoid the burning of waste and provide a healthy alternative that combats obesity and diabetes.
Why?
Every year, millions of tonnes of agricultural wastes are incinerated by small scale farmers, releasing massive amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere. In Mexico, this practice creates 40% of the CO2 that we generate as a country*. At the same time, the leading cause of death is diabetes, with obesity drastically on the rise.
Addressing these social and environmental problems, we purchase and collect agricultural waste from small scale farmers and transform it into a natural sweetener, which looks and tastes identical to sugar, is low in calories, ideal for diabetics, and protects teeth against cavities. By doing so, we also generate revenue for low-income families and prevent burning, along with human exposure to the associated harmful pollutants.
