Closing the loop on coffee shop waste.

Revive Eco aims to eradicate the traditional ‘take, make, dispose’ way of thinking by transforming used coffee grounds into environmentally-friendly products.

Why?

Every year, over 500,000 tonnes of coffee grounds are generated in the UK, of which 90% are landfilled or incinerated, costing the UK coffee industry $100m*. The biochemicals held within the coffee grounds have a range of uses and contain key components that make up palm oil, meaning the volume of nutrient-rich material being disposed is a catastrophic waste of resources. Palm oil production accounts for roughly 10% of global CO2 emissions annually.

Revive offers a waste collection service to divert these coffee grounds and extract maximum value. From the residual material, we create a natural soil conditioner, putting valuable nutrients back into the earth via an entirely zero waste process, and providing a range of industries (such as hospitality, cosmetics and fashion) with sustainable and locally-sourced alternatives to palm oil.

Funding would allow us to…

…launch our first industrial coffee ground processing plant, increasing our processing capacity and disrupting a range of international industries in order to deliver maximum impact across the globe. To date, we have diverted 20 tonnes of coffee grounds away from landfill, saving approximately 36 tonnes of CO2. We’re here to change mindsets.

What’s your blend for success?

Purpose and impact is engrained in everything we do, and ultimately, that’s our blend for success. The more coffee grounds we collect and process, the greater revenue we generate, which in turn enables us to grow our impact and process more material for a cleaner world.
