WHAT IF WE COULD TRANSFORM THE WAY ORGANIC PRODUCE IS BOUGHT AND SOLD?
Food waste is an ever-growing problem in Brazil. Around 41,000 tonnes of food a year never makes it to consumers' tables due to losses along the chain. As well as this, Brazil is one of the leading countries of pesticide use in farming, despite the health and environmental risks that come with using them.
Raízs is a platform that aims to eliminate both of these problems by connecting eco-consious consumers in big cities with small-scale organic farmers. We work with hundreds of farmers to only pick and supply the exact quantity of organic, pesticide-free vegetables ordered by our consumers. This eliminates any food waste and use of toxins in one go.
We’re very proud of our farmers and their organic produce, and the paper packaging we use to deliver our vegetables bears the photo of the family that has grown them. We also keep a percentage of our profits for a fund managed by the farmers. This is our way to celebrate the love and resilience it requires to be a small organic farmer in Brazil and to shorten the distance between the two sides of the same chain – the consumer and the producer – that are otherwise kept miles apart.
FUNDING WOULD ALLOW US TO…
Funding will be used on all touchpoints of our business. We’ll hire more people, modernise and develop our distribution centre, improve our on-demand technology by making it easier for small-scale organic farmers to input their crops' availability information, and from an office perspective, simplify our buying process.
All of this will help us connect to more small-scale farmers, extend our portfolio and amplify our reach to other Brazilian cities. Ultimately, we’ll be able to get more people better access to non-toxic fresh food in a responsible way.
