WHAT IF YOU COULD START A REVOLUTION WITH JUST ONE BOTTLE?
Every minute, one million single-use plastic bottles are used globally – 90% of which aren’t recycled. On a walk along a deserted beach in Japan in 2018, my co-founder and I came across huge piles of plastic waste (including many bottles) that had drifted ashore. That’s why we co-founded mymizu, a social enterprise tackling the plastics crisis, one bottle at a time.
mymizu (mizu is Japanese for water) is a platform connecting people to more than 5,500 free water refill stations across Japan, and 200,000 globally. Using mymizu, you can refill your water bottle at water fountains, partner cafes, shops, and hotels. Not only is it good for the planet, but it’s good for the body and the wallet! Since launching in September 2019, we've had over 25,000 downloads across 35 countries, and tracked the reduction of over 5,000 PET bottles and over 1,700kg of CO2 emissions.
FUNDING WOULD ALLOW US TO…
The support we’ve received since launching has been phenomenal in five months. We’ve gained over 25,000 users, expanded overseas, had over 400 cafes or shops register on our platform, and tracked the reduction of more than 5,000 PET (a form of polyester) bottles.
We need support to add new features to our service, grow our network of refill partners, and mobilize dozens of ‘local chapters’ based in Japan and abroad to really take this movement global, beyond 2020.
