After 47 incredible years in the whisky industry, Custodian Master Blender Colin Scott is retiring.
Colin joined Chivas Brothers with the incredible ability to recreate the iconic Chivas house style that only four men in the position of Master Blender had before. However, this wasn’t the end of his legacy. As well as keeping Chivas 12 beautifully smooth and generous, he also introduced new blends to the Chivas family, including Chivas Mizunara, Chivas Extra and the iconic Chivas 18.
Colin joined Chivas Brothers in 1973 and in 1989, became Chivas’ fifth Master Blender. A passion for whisky had always been instilled in Colin – with both his grandfather and father working in the Scotch whisky industry, you could say it was in his DNA.
After almost half a century in the whisky industry, what was his biggest career highlight?
“The one achievement that stands out head and shoulders above the rest is Chivas 18 Gold Signature which was launched in 1997 and then repackaged in 2004 with my gold signature on it,” Colin said.
“It’s such an achievement and it’s also my favourite dram - if I went to a desert island I’d take a case of Chivas 18!”
As he steps back from the role – leaving Master Blender Sandy Hyslop to create a new legacy – he’s looking forward to a quiet retirement.
“I’m going to enjoy myself spending time with friends, family, fishing and golf. It’s time to relax. What is most important is finding something to do, whether a hobby, gardening, going up a hill or reading and planning something to look forward to.”
