Which game-changing startup won the most amount of funding based on your votes?

The public votes for the Chivas Venture competition opened on Monday 8th May and closed on 12th June. Every week, $50,000 was divided amongst the finalists based on your votes. Which start-up came out on top?

With 35,617 votes over the course of the five weeks, WeaRobot were consistently the public’s favourite throughout the whole voting period. The Mexican startup, developing affordable exoskeleton technology to assist those who suffer from mobility loss, received $53,824 worth of funding.

Ernesto Rodriguez-Leal, CEO of WeaRobot said: “The Chivas Venture has changed our business beyond all expectations. During the voting period we received support and messages from thousands of people, sharing their stories of how our technology can positively impact their lives. This funding will enable us to perform our initial clinical study to prove the benefits of using our product in rehabilitation. We can’t wait for the Chivas Venture Final in July!”

In second place overall was Bioestibas, the startup from Colombia that is producing ecological pallets made with flower waste. They accumulated over 24,400 votes across the entire period and will be given over $36,500 worth of funding to help their business flourish.

SoloCoco, the startup from Dominican Republic, finished in third place, closely followed by Xinca from Argentina. They each received over 11,000 votes which unlocked over $17,000 for their respective businesses. In fifth place, is UK startup OLIO, who received over $13,700 to fuel their food sharing revolution.

This initial funding provides many opportunities for the finalists of the Chivas Venture; finalist iDrop Water from South Africa has already been able to provide safe drinking water to 3,500 school children thanks to Chivas Venture funding received so far.

Although the public vote is now over, the journey for the 30 finalists has just begun. The remaining $750,000 in funding will be awarded at the Chivas Venture Final next month. Hosted in Los Angeles, these exceptional entrepreneurs will be invited to be pitch their game-changing businesses in front of a live audience and the competition’s esteemed judging panel.
