Cooking up a brighter future for refugees

The Picha Project is empowering refugee families through a sustainable food delivery business. Refugees cook delicious food at home – we buy it, package it and sell it as part of a catering service to corporate businesses, companies or individuals. The Picha Project offers authentic traditional meals from different cultures whether it’s meal boxes, mini-buffet deliveries, or full catering services.

There are over 150,000 refugees currently in Malaysia. Due to their marginalised status, many of them have no access to job opportunities, education or healthcare.

We’re dedicated to creating a better Malaysia, where all communities are active contributors to the society and economy of the country. We’re not purely a source of income for these families, but we’re invested in building livelihoods and empowering them to become independent.

Grow our business, reaching more people and creating a much deeper impact for the refugee communities. We’d be able to invest in a system to manage operations as well as provide improved training to both our chefs and managers.

We’re also hoping to start Picha kiosks which would allow us to reach out to the community, raising awareness and giving refugees experience managing food stalls.

So far, we’ve served over 50,000 customers and worked with 12 families (50-60 people) from 5 different countries, ensuring that they can put food on their own table, have a roof over their heads, send their kids to school and afford their hospital bills. We want to continue to grow and impact more families in this situation.

Some say nosy, I say kind…

I love solving puzzles as well as people’s problems and my mum calls me a “busybody”, but I prefer “kind-hearted”. I started developing solutions to help people that were in need and eventually recruited some business brains to help. Today, I’m fortunate to work with a team of people who share my vision and work tirelessly to make it a reality. It seems like the nosiness paid off!
