Chivas 18 is our intense, complex blend with 85 flavour notes – meaning a cocktail made with this has to feature flavours that can stand their ground. Sweet chestnut liqueur provides a rich sweetness, alongside mirin, which also brings a touch of umami to the table. Rather than being too rich, these flavours are offset by bergamot, a more bitter relation of the milder lemon or orange. Created by Kentaro Wada at the Chivas Masters 2018, this is a beautiful Japanese-style whisky cocktail recipe that’s sure to impress.

It’s easy to make a citrus twist! Take the fruit and cut a thin slice of the peel 2cm wide starting at the top of the fruit, all the way to the bottom. Cut off the peel only and remove any excess pulp. Squeeze the long strip of peel over the drink, twist and hold for 10 seconds to keep its shape.

Citrus zests are used in whisky cocktails to add aroma. This means that like tasting a great whisky, every sip is a journey, with a start, middle and end; nose, palette and finish.
